A one-day qualification covering the essential skills to manage first aid emergencies. The most widely held workplace first aid certificate — ideal for lower-risk environments.
Who is this course for?
The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is designed for any employee who may need to respond to a first aid emergency at work. It is particularly suited to:
- Appointed first aiders in offices, retail, hospitality, and other lower-risk workplaces
- Small businesses where a full FAW is not required by the risk assessment
- Employees where the HSE needs assessment indicates EFAW is appropriate
- Staff needing a refresh of emergency first aid skills

- Workplaces where the HSE risk assessment specifies FAW

What does the course cover?
The FAW course significantly expands on the EFAW, covering a much wider range of injuries and medical emergencies:
- Role and responsibilities of the workplace first aider
- Managing an unconscious casualty; CPR and AED
- Choking — adults
- Wounds, severe bleeding and shock
- Burns and scalds
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries — fractures, dislocations, sprains

First Aid Course
First Aid at Work Requalification
Renew your First Aid at Work certificate with the two-day requalification course. Certificates can be requalified up to 3 months after expiry — but until requalified, the holder cannot act as a workplace first aider.
Who is this course for?
The FAW Requalification is for holders of a current, valid First Aid at Work certificate who need to renew before it expires. Suitable for:
- Current FAW certificate holders with a certificate due to expire within 3 months
- Appointed workplace first aiders maintaining their qualification
- Organisations keeping their first aid team fully certified
Certificate expiry rules: Learners may take the requalification course up to 3 months after their certificate has expired. However, once a certificate has expired the holder cannot act as a workplace first aider until they have successfully requalified. If the certificate has been expired for more than 3 months, the learner must take the full three-day First Aid at Work course — the requalification is not available in this case.
What does the course cover?
The course revisits and refreshes all key FAW topics with an emphasis on practical skills, updated guidelines and scenario-based practice:
- Refresher on the first aider's role and responsibilities
- CPR, AED and unconscious casualty management
- Wounds, bleeding and shock
- Burns, scalds and eye injuries
- Bone and joint injuries
- Medical emergencies — heart attack, stroke, seizures, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes
- Any updates to first aid guidelines or best practice

Emergency Paediatric First Aid
A one-day paediatric qualification for those working with children in lower-risk settings — childminders, teaching assistants and after-school staff.
Who is this course for?
The Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) qualification is designed for anyone working with or caring for babies and children who requires a paediatric-focused first aid certificate:
- Registered childminders (one PFA certificate required per Ofsted)
- Teaching assistants, early years support staff and after-school workers
- Nannies, au pairs and private childcare workers
- Play workers and youth workers

The Paediatric First Aid (PFA) is the full qualification required by Ofsted-registered early years settings under the EYFS statutory framework. Suitable for:
- Nursery staff and room leaders
- Day care and crèche workers
- Out-of-school clubs, holiday clubs and forest schools
- Primary school staff requiring the full paediatric qualification
- Childminders wishing to hold the comprehensive certificate
Ofsted requirement: The EYFS framework requires at least one person with a current PFA certificate to be on the premises and available at all times children are present in registered settings.

Our director has a background in hospitality operations but has been lecturing in further education since 2005, training a large number of learners across multiple compliance disciplines.

What is the difference between EFAW and FAW?▼
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a one-day course covering core emergency skills, suitable for lower-risk workplaces. First Aid at Work (FAW) is a comprehensive three-day qualification covering a much wider range of injuries and illnesses, required in higher-risk environments. The appropriate course depends on your workplace risk assessment — we're happy to advise.
How do we decide which first aid course our business needs?▼
The HSE recommends completing a first aid needs assessment considering the number of employees, the nature of the work, workplace hazards and location. We can help you work through this — get in touch for free advice on which course is right for your business.
How long are first aid certificates valid?▼
All of our first aid certificates are valid for three years. We strongly recommend requalifying before expiry — if a certificate lapses, delegates must retake the full qualification rather than the shorter requalification course. We can send reminders ahead of renewal dates.
What areas do you cover for on-site training?▼
We deliver throughout Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, including Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield, Newark, Chesterfield, Matlock, Long Eaton, Hucknall, Ilkeston and surrounding areas. If you're unsure whether we can reach your location, please get in touch.
What do we need to provide for on-site training?▼
We bring all training materials, CPR manikins and equipment. You need to provide a suitable room with enough floor space for practical activities, seating for all delegates, and ideally a table or desk area. Let us know your space and we'll confirm suitability.
What is the minimum number of delegates for on-site training?▼
We recommend a minimum of 4 delegates to make on-site delivery cost-effective. However, smaller groups can be accommodated — contact us for a tailored quote. Maximum group size is typically 12 to maintain training quality.
What is FAIB and are the qualifications recognised?▼
The First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) is the recognised awarding and accreditation body for first aid qualifications in the UK. FAIB-accredited certificates are widely accepted by employers and HSE-compliant. We also offer Highfield Qualifications (Ofqual-regulated) versions where a regulated certificate is required.
Are your qualifications accepted by Ofsted?▼
Yes. Our Paediatric First Aid qualification meets the EYFS statutory requirement. We recommend the Highfield-regulated version for Ofsted-registered settings — please mention this when booking so we issue the correct certificate.
Can training days be spread out rather than consecutive?▼
For multi-day courses we can discuss flexible scheduling. Days don't have to be consecutive but should be completed within a reasonable timeframe to maintain continuity. Contact us to arrange dates that suit your operation.

How It Works
Learn online first, then practise in person
Blended learning splits the qualification into an online theory element and a shorter practical classroom session. The e-learning must be completed before the classroom day.
